Tonight’s Faculty Concert brings together some of the most respected and beloved artists in the world of klezmer music and Yiddish Song. Among them are Grammy Award winners Sir Frank London and Lorin Sklamberg, joined by Yiddish Summer Weimar audience favorites such as Sasha Lurje, Deborah Strauss, and many others.
Taking a brief break from teaching the Advanced Instrumental (Klezmer), Advanced Yiddish Song and Intermediate Yiddish Song workshops, these outstanding artists present a rich and varied program that highlights contrasting sides of Yiddish musical culture. The evening features songs from the Yiddish theater and popular repertoire made famous by legendary stars of the Yiddish stage, rarely heard songs of Hasidic women as well as traditional and contemporary Yiddish music that expands the horizons of klezmer music.
Weaving together music from the past and present, this concert reveals the remarkable diversity, depth, and vitality of Yiddish culture. Above all, it demonstrates that Yiddish music remains a vibrant, evolving, and profoundly creative force for our time—and for the future.
